DESCRIPTION: The AC101 Listserv list provides an unmoderated environment where issues, questions, comments and ideas related to Financial Accounting and to accounting in general can be discussed by students. Subscribers are encouraged to ask questions related to the text, virtual lectures, homework, Internet projects, etc. As is the case with all unmoderated forums, the topics and discussions are limited only by the imagination and interests of its members. Membership will be denied to those who are not in Mr. Rice's AC101 classes.
This list/forum is a way for students to interact, to get help and to help other students. It is not a substitute for getting help from Mr. Rice. If you need his help, either email him directly at Rice@Loyola.edu, telephone him at X-2478 or see him in his Sellinger Hall, Room 325 office during regular office hours or by appointment. While Mr. Rice will monitor this list, he will not routinely respond to postings sent to it since it is primarily for students to interact with each other. However, he will use the list to communicate with the entire class when the need arises.
Students are welcome to take an active role by posting to the list or an inactive role by monitoring the forum (i.e., "lurking"). However, as with many mailing lists, you are invited and encouraged to introduce yourself to the group. Introductions should include your home town, high school, Loyola major, prior accounting courses, career aspirations, etc.
HOW TO SUBSCRIBE:You
have already been subscribed to this list using your Loyola e-mail
address. You must be subscribed from the e-mail account from which you will post messages. You
may, therefore, wish to unsubscribe from your Loyola account and subscribe from another
account. The computer handles all subscription requests automatically.
After you subscribe, you will receive a message with the subject "Command confirmation request" followed by a number in parentheses. The message will explain that you have 48 hours to confirm your subscription request by replying with an "OK" message. If you do not confirm within 48 hours, you will need to start over.
HOW TO POST A MESSAGE: Mail must be addressed to: AC101@Listserv.Loyola.Edu. Only subscribers can post to the list. All mail sent to the above address will be automatically forwarded to all subscribers. If you reply to a question, observation, etc. using the REPLY command, your response will also be forwarded automatically to all members. If you wish to respond privately to the original sender, you must locate that person's address in the mail header and address the response directly to them.
HOW TO CHANGE TO DIGEST MODE: If you wish to subscribe in digest mode where you will receive a maximum of one large post each day, you must first subscribe in "normal" mode where you receive each message as it is posted. You can then modify your subscription by sending mail to Listserv@Listserv.Loyola.edu and in the body of the message putting only the command: SET AC101 DIGEST (Note that you don't need to give a subscription name or address.) If you are subscribed in digest mode, you should never use the "reply" command to respond to a post. To do so will cause the subject to show that you are replying to an "AC101 Digest" for a particular date and won't make any sense to anyone. It will also destroy the discussion thread. Instead of using reply, You should manually enter the subject to which you are responding prefaced by RE:.
HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE: To unsubscribe from the AC101@Listserv.Loyola.Edu list, send mail to Listserv@Listserv.Loyola.eduand in the body of the message put only the command: UNSUBSCRIBE AC101 (Note that you don't need to give a subscription name or address.) You will be automatically unsubscribed after the end of the semester.
ARCHIVES: Web-based archives are available here. You can also post to the list and manage your subscription from this archives page using a Web interface as an alternative to the e-mail interface.
