|I expect you to have read and studied the chapter material thoroughly,
to have "experienced" the lectures and to have questions ready on points
that you do not understand.
Keypads will be used to record your feedback to both planned and impromptu questions. They will be used a few times in every actual class to determine how well you understood the chapter, virtual lecture, lab and homework assignment so I will know if I need to spend more time on certain points. The keypads will be initialized during the first two minutes of each class. If you arrive late for any reason, your keypad will be "dead" for that class and you will receive a zero for any questions asked during that period. (Any form of assistance to a classmate relating to keypads, including activating their keypad to prevent them being locked out is a form of cheating punishable as explained in the "Academic Integrity" section of this syllabus.) Since the computer program maintains your feedback scores by class section, you must always attend the section for which you are registered in order to get credit for your feedback.
I will take a computerized picture of each student early in the semester. Randomly selected pictures will be projected on the classroom screen. When your picture is shown, it is your turn to answer a question. Questions can be about homework problems or exercises or about the lecture material. You are expected to be prepared to respond to a question at any time.
In summary, during the actual classes which we devote to a particular chapter, I will make sure that all the points which I consider most important are covered in at least one of three ways: (1) by virtual lectures; (2) by keypad and verbal questions; and (3) by going over solutions to homework problems.
